Spot 4 Kidz Family Unit is a prevention and early intervention model supporting families, with children aged 12 years old and under, who are experiencing difficulties in their families. The support is facilitated within the families' home and in the “home like” centre. The focus is on providing “on the spot” support for parents to assist them in developing their parenting and social skills, behaviour management strategies for children, promoting family play and social development for the whole family.

Some of the interventions provided in supporting families with diverse needs include:
- Therapeutic Family support
- Mentor/role modeling ‘on the spot' intensive in-home support
- Play facilitation
- Educational programs: individual; sibling; children and parents
- Adventure camps & holiday programs
- Outsource counseling
- Advocacy support; networking with other services
- Members' meeting
- Craft and Social activities
- Child Care
- Transportation
- Drop In Centre
- 24 hour phone support as per case plans
The Family Unit does not identify families who access the service as clients but rather as members. The title ‘member' is to acknowledge that services are not just delivered to the families but the families are active participants within the service and their input is valued very much as part of the team. The service strives to empower all members creating a sense of ownership as it is the members who choose their own path. The Family Unit model strongly believes in people taking responsibility for the choices that affect their lives and exists purely to support families in the facilitation, promotion and implementation of change.
Spot 4 Kidz Family Unit program, an initiative of The Spot Community Services Ltd, are funded by The Department of Communities and are free to attend. Free child care and transportation are offered to parents’ whist attending our programs to assist them to access our service. |
